Asking For A Raise

These days, even Greensboro companies that are doing well in steel coil strapping machine sales have to be careful of their bottom line. What this means for you, the employee, is that raises are no longer handed out like candy. Budgets are tightly guarded, so if you want a raise, you're going to have to ask for it, and no only that - prove that you deserve it. If you're naturally timid and not prone to self aggrandizement, this might be difficult for you to do. Let this article give you some tips on how to go about it.

Calculate Income vs Expenses

Many company bosses forget worry so much about how inflation affects their profits that they forget it's also affecting their employees too. As the prices of breakfast cereal and rent and new sewage pumps for your septic system rise, so should your salary, allowing you to continue to be solvent. However, if inflation is catching up with you, do a few quick calculations you can show your boss to prove that the raise you want is necessary.

Quantify Your Worth

Company bean counters respond best to facts and figures, so it can help to put the work you do for the company in the form of statistics. If you simply say you're the head of your department and that you hosted a lot of training days, that's too nebulous. You need to say things like: I personally sold x number of covered call ETFs which netted the company a profit of x, which is x percent better than company average. After the training day, my staff's average sales went up x percent.

Schedule an Appointment

Once you have a little presentation or speech worked out about why you deserve a raise and how much of a raise you should get, schedule an appointment with your boss to make sure he or she can't interrupt you to talk on the phone to his or her spouse about a wedding rental in Burlington or run off to a power lunch with a client. You want their full and undivided attention, and to get it you need to enlist the aid of your boss's assistant.

Be Respectful

When you ask for a raise, be confident and firm, as your boss will be more likely to take you seriously. Timid people can easily be shrugged off. However, don't be aggressive or demanding or exaggerate the importance of you continuing to drive a municipal vehicle. Be respectful, and you will be respected in turn.
